We love having children in our office! While we love all the cuteness that comes strolling in with our kid patients, we enjoy giving kids something they need, great dental care. The dental care and habits they receive in childhood will impact their dental health well into adulthood. We prefer preventing problems altogether. When problems do occur, we prefer finding the problem early so that these minor problems can be fixed easily. Hopefully, we can keep your kids away from big problems. To get kids off to a good start, we recommend that parents bring their children in at around 3 years of age, unless their pediatrician sees a specific dental concern earlier.

Children love to be at our office, as well! That's because we do all we can to make their first dental experience a fun one. Yes, you read that correctly, FUN. We start off with a turn with our Playstation2 / DVD area in the reception room. In the treatment room they get to choose their favorite TV channel or bring in their favorite DVD. They get to "ride" in our special "space chair" and can turn on the chairs "tickle fingers" (massage mat). We look in their mouth with a special "miniature spy camera" (intra-oral camera) and examine their teeth with a "tooth counter". Then, we polish their teeth with a special toothpaste and give them "tooth vitamins" (fluoride treatment). A special gift is given to our kids on completion of their first visit.

Parents love the experience for different reasons. Sure, we make dentistry comfortable and maybe even entertaining for your kids. But parents really appreciate our philosophy of prevention, early detection, and prompt intervention. We hope your kids never know what "root canal" means. Prevention certainly includes brushing, flossing, routine visits, and fluoride treatments. However, many kids benefit with more proactive prevention with the use of sealants. Sealants fill the tiny little crevices on the tooth’s surface that retain food, debris, and "cavity bugs" even with good brushing. Sealants cover these tiny crevices similar to the "clear coat" on a car to prevent "cavities" (dental caries). Early detection of dental caries ("cavities") is accomplished with the Diagnodent laser. The Diagnodent uses laser light to detect dental caries before they are visible on examination. That means dental caries ("cavities") can be removed when they are so small that no shot and no drill is required! Shots and drills are not required because the cavity is removed with air abrasion unit that works like a sandblaster. The air abrasion unit is very quiet, creates no heat, creates no vibration, and requires no anesthesia. To place the final touch on our proactive philosophy for your child, we offer Toothprints Dental ID system as a free service for all our patients.
